No Slow Days for Violetta Bazyluk

As Benefits Manager at Headquarters, Violetta Bazyluk manages the benefits employees enjoy.

When she joined Catapult last July, reporting to Terrie Ney, Director of Human Resources, Violetta’s position was a new one, and there were some inherent challenges.

“We grew overnight,” she says.

Violetta had to manage the implementation of procedures that enforce new policies. Meanwhile, Catapult was bringing its payroll system in house and kicking off the benefits open enrollment period. A lot was going on at once.

“Open enrollment was challenging because we’re so spread out now,” says Violetta. She traveled to sites in New York and those local to Washington, D.C. to conduct enrollment sessions. “It was great to meet people and put faces with names,” she says.

Open enrollment was “a huge success,” says Violetta. When the first paycheck reflecting open enrollment selections went out at the end of February, the human resources department received only a few calls with questions—but no administrative difficulties. “Everything went smoothly,” she adds.

Violetta has spent eight years of her human resources career in benefits administration. Before moving to Kensington, MD, where she lives with her husband Janusz and 14-month-old son Adam, she lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY, where her family settled 12 years ago from Poland.

“I hate to be bored, and there is no time to be bored at Catapult,” she says. “This is my type of environment.”
