Local Support Manager, Central Office, GSA

Juan Gomez Manages Local Support

As the prime contractor to the General Services Administration (GSA) on the GSA Infrastructure Technology Global Operations (GITGO) project, Catapult provides critical information technology support services to many individuals at GSA, including clerical staff and political appointees who have direct ties with the White House, Congress, and other federal agencies and departments.

As Local Support Manager for the Central Office at GSA, Juan Gomez manages one of the Local Support sites for the GITGO project. Juan’s staff of 18 provides IT support for five GITGO tasks. He reports to Steve Edwards, Senior Project Manager for Local Support, Task D.

As manager, Juan is the point of contact for executives and management at GSA. Each executive has about ten direct reports—about 1,800 users that the Local Support team serves.

“We deal with customers who have fast-paced demands,” says Juan. The Local Support team handles six to ten different tasks at one time, fulfilling tickets that run from replacing broken equipment to installing and maintaining the critical software programs that users rely on daily.

“My job as a manager is to provide them with the processes and tools they need to do their job and make sure that they’re not stretched too thin,” Juan says.

“Customers’ requests come in fast and furious,” he adds. “My team takes the initiative and is quick to come up with solutions. They really outdo themselves.

“On GITGO, we handle issues we’ve never had to handle before,” says Juan. “We’re better now than we were at the beginning as we continue to fine-tune our processes. GITGO is an excellent example of a real Catapult success story.”

Juan joined Catapult a month after the company won GITGO in March 2007. Previously, he worked for Washington, D.C. government and Fannie Mae, performing database management, network architecture, and help desk support functions. Time spent waiting tables and tending bar also helped him develop a strong sense of customer service.

Juan lives in Fairfax, VA, with his girlfriend Sang Hi and Yorkshire terriers Lucky and Dolce. He enjoys sports and the outdoors but has a special interest in vintage 1980s animated T.V. shows, including G.I. Joe and Transformers.

But his hobbies take second place to his position at Catapult. “I’m getting the most I can from this experience,” he says. “Every day I learn from my colleagues. I’m honored to work alongside them.”
