Director of Governmentwide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) Programs, Catapult Headquarters

For Gregg Melanson, It Really Is a Small World After All

Gregg Melanson’s life has a heavy Disney component to it. He’s a native Floridian who grew up on the Space Coast and attended Central Florida colleges, all within the geographical pull of The Mouse.

Plus, he spent the early years of his career in a wide range of increasingly senior management positions with the Walt Disney Company, where he worked in resort operations, recreation operations, marketing, and various company task force efforts. He met his wife, Chrystie, while they both worked for the company.

“Disney created the foundation for me professionally,” he says, recalling the nine years he spent with the company, before he and Chrystie decided to move to Virginia. Once in the Washington, DC area, Gregg spent 10 years with federal contractors large and small before joining Catapult as Director of Governmentwide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) Programs. In this role, Gregg serves as program officer for Catapult’s GWACs, which account for a significant portion of the company’s revenue.

With a cadre of employees spread across the company’s clients, Gregg says this new position is challenging. But it’s also “a perfect mix” of business development, program management, and chasing after government contracts. Catapult is “the lead dog in the sled race,” Gregg says. “I feel lucky the position was available and that my skill sets fit,” he adds.
Before joining Catapult, Gregg was General Manager of Global Opportunity Engagement for Sprint in Reston, VA, where he spearheaded the managed services aspect of Sprint’s GWAC, valued at $20 billion over 10 years. He was also a core member of an eight-person leadership team reporting to the CEO, charged with redesigning the company as part of an in-depth analysis of the $5 billion annual budget.

Gregg’s GWAC work goes back one more position, when he was Director of Federal Programs for C-Technologies.net in Fairfax, VA. There, he led the GWAC business development team for a number of federal agencies in addition to other responsibilities.

Along the way, Gregg earned his MBA at The George Washington University, and he and Chrystie learned to explore and love the DC area’s restaurant scene, arts, and museums.

But that’s all old news. Today, Gregg is focused on his new job at Catapult, raising his family, and expecting another child this month.

It’s a safe bet there’s a lot more Disney about to enter Gregg’s life…
